First two contestants announced. ‘Comedians Bill Bailey, 55, and Caroline Quentin, 60, plan to brush up on their dancing skills when starring on the hit BBC show.’
It’ll be interesting to see how they manage this with what’s going on. Dancers wearing masks? Dancers having no contact? Both are unlikely, but it might prevent any of the hanky panky that allegedly occurs. 😉
If that’s true and it’s how they’re financing it, then I don’t agree with it at all (although no longer having free licences doesn’t and won’t affect me.)
I don’t think their idea of stopping free licences for the over 75s is a good idea at all when some pensioners rely on their TV for company and who aren’t claiming any benefits that would make them exempt. My neighbour who is 82 and only has her state pension to live on is a case in point.
On the contestants front, it's rumoured that interior designer Kelly Hoppen and former Coronation Street actress Lucy Fallonhas have been approached.
Quarantining dancers in hotel for £10,000 a day is obscene! The fact that it will be shorter -nine weeks instead of the normal 13- cuts no ice with me either. Add to that the the money on offer to take part rumoured to be capped at £60,000 is too much for too little.
As for Toril's point about no hanky panky, I think it will be more likely seeing as contestants will be asked to 'bubble' with their dance partners for 9 weeks. Nine weeks! 'Opportunity Knocks' or what!? Consider also there will be no friends or family members around.
It's Time to Scrap the Licence Fee and Privatise the BBC in my view.
I'm sure when I suggested ages ago that the licence fee should be scrapped in favour of BBC subscription charges, it was laughed off the forum. Never mind.
