I am so tired of trying to find cat food that cats actually like and does not get thrown away after a few mouthfuls. The last few years it has got worse as Purina and others have obviously cut quality in order to keep the price down. Having to buy boxes that contain the same 4 flavours, regardless of price, knowing they will only eat two of those, if you are lucky, grrrrrr!
Trying some of the more expensive varieties has not impressed Boots, I don’t think he likes the texture of the shreds etc. Anyhow, a light at the end of the tunnel, for now at least, is the new Felix Naturally Delicious.
It comes in two choices Chicken and Beef or Turkey and Duck. As it was going well with chicken and beef I decided to try one box of the of the T&D this week, and he has actually eaten that as well.
They are smaller pouches (80g) and normally £5 per box, but with no waste it is not any dearer for me than the cheaper varieties. If you have a Clubcard it is £3.50 in Tesco at the moment. Hopefully, they will add a fish option, but for now Boots is enjoying his food. Phew!
It's so annoying when they mess about with the recipe's. Mine aren't too fussy as long as they're not the cheap one's and I can't give Harry Whiskers as they seem to bring on his cystitis, I normally find a few of their favourite biscuits scattered on the top of the one's they get bored with normally works a treat
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right, the only difference is they're wrong
I could get away telling Millie there was "NO more until it's all gone!". She would usually go and eat it then, but there is no persuading Boots. Good job he loves his biscuits.
None of my cats have ever like the gravy ones, in fact it use to make one or two of them physically sick.
Mine don't like the gravy one's either, I usually get them IAMS Ocean & Meat varieties, Sheba Flakes Fish & Meat varieties and they love all of the Felix Double delicious, Sensations and Good as it looks. Pets at Home did a range can't remember it's name, the fish option had whole small prawns in it, they were a little more expensive but they absolutely adored them but I haven't seen it in store for a couple of years

Felix is (used to be ?) full of sugar according to one Vet we saw a few years ago when Howell had two back teeth out. so we avoided that. He maintained the ideal diet was a dry/ wet mix. A dry diet saves teeth, but if your cat won't drink much water be careful. When we picked Ruby up from The Cats Protection League we stuck with what they fed her, Purina ProPlan, plain chicken, no rice, veg or any of the other fillers they put in some of their varieties. After quite a bit of trial & error we settled on the wet bit of her diet. She has half a tin of Encore in Broth, the unused half goes in the fridge with a plastic lid on it until next time which is about two days later. Boy does she love it!
Edit: I should have added that the tins are tiny - 70g, but the meat/fish is very rich. Tonight it was Tuna fillet with Shrimp ... And she knows the other half is in the fridge
Our Millie will eat any of it as long as it's in jelly. The worse the smell, the better the food. BUT we must have food rotation or we get bored and refuse to eat. So no two boxes of food must re-occur back to back - we can have Whiskers, Felix, all the supermarket varieties apart from Morrissons, "which is shite" Millie said. Pebbles must be Go-Cat.
Yes, food rotation here. Ours get whatever is on offer from the Pet Shop Boys up the road, alternating with LIDL jelly sachets and whatever is on offer at the Supermarket. They get half a sachet of whatever, every morning and evening and , if they don't like it, Ashley will obligingly finish it for them because he will eat anything. They all have access to the all day biscuit buffet so the fusspots don't starve.
It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.
Boots loves his biscuits, I mix Iams low in fat 50/50 with Purina as he was becoming chubby. He only gets them twice a day, and as he can't nick extras anymore he is starting to slim down a bit.
The problems with wet food have have only materialised since the financial crisis when the prices were pretty much the same as they are now, my cats used eat quite happily. Not possible to keep the price down for years without reducing the quality.
