We went to the common today, first time since November. The ground was frozen apart from a few mud patches hit by the sunshine. There was a lot of owners and dogs who must have had the idea, it was so lovely seeing Freddie galloping about again. Will try and go again tomorrow.

Hartley has been enjoying this too over the last few days after so long when it's just been too wet and muddy. Beware though in icy/snowy weather, they can get frostbite on their paws and also salt/grit put down on footpaths can burn their paws. I think it's OK as long as you're not out there for hours on end, H has had no problems so far.
That's the best thing about taking him to the common, it's 99% grass and tracks are inaccessible. Fortunately, despite the cold there has been no need for local roads and pavements so far. His paws were very dirty yesterday, so I stood him in a few inches of warm water to wash between his toes. Since the grass seed incident last summer I am very wary of his paws. His feet are now poodle cut when he is groomed on recommendation of the vet, I can use a toothbrush then to gently clean around. He's a right scruffbag at the moment, I'm reluctant to have him groomed while it's cold, but it's been nearly three months, so in the next week or two.
