Retinol increases skin cell production (proliferation). It helps unclog pores. Retinol also exfoliates your skin and increases collagen production, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, giving your skin a fresher, plump appearance.
I have used it but can’t say it was an amazing product to be honest so I don’t bother now. I haven’t got many fine lines or wrinkles though so maybe that’s why I didn’t see dramatic results.
If you do use it, the most important thing to know/remember is that it should be applied at night and SPF should be used the following day.

I've never dabbled. Any fans/users on here?
I use it. I started off with the Ordinary brand which is OK and not too expensive. My DIL bought me Sunday Riley night retinol oil which is very good but too expensive to re-purchase unfortunately. It hasn't made much difference to lines/wrinkles but it brightens up my face a bit.

This is from an email I got from Reduit and echoes what Toril said about SPF.
The skin cycling trend is everywhere. Even dermatologists seem to be excited about it!
So what is it and why is everybody so into it? The four-part nightly skincare routine simply alternates between two nights of using active ingredients And one or two nights of letting the skin rest.
Night 1: Exfoliation night treatment Night 2: Retinol night treatment Nighs 3 & 4: Recovery & Rest
Should you try it?
Every person’s skin is different, so your best bet is to consult your dermatologist, especially if your skin is sensitive.
But if you are going to try it, do it with BOOST, to ensure even better results, in less time. For example, one of the recommended Night 1 post-exfoliation products is Tatcha the Dewy Skin Cream, whose hydration effect is up to 50% better** when used with BOOST,
As for the Retinol Night 2, try La Roche-Posay Retinol B3 Pure Retinol Serum or The Ordinary Retinol 1% in Squalane.

And don’t forget to listen to your skin, protect it with SPF, and always - keep it well hydrated.
I'd have to put a calendar on the bathroom wall & make notes so I would know what to use at night I've been keeping it simple -double cleanse, moisturise at night. Plain water or micellar water AM
I took the plunge. Daughters messaged me while on holiday in Sri Lanka that they were going to purchase Retinol (cheap as chips in the pharmacy) and did I want some. Retin-A comes in a variety of strengths such as 0.25% (the lowest), 0.5% and 1.0 % (the strongest). They came back with Tretin-A 0.025 cream I did my research and slowly eased into using it. Severn weeks later I can see a very obvious improvement in skin texture. Smooth as glass. It takes months before fine lines and wrinkles show results so I'll keep slapping it on.
Good to hear that you can see an improvement, but don’t forget the SPF as well. 😉 Even in dull weather you should use it, especially after using retinol.
My nighttime routine is basic as the advice is to keep it simple, but it has spread over a longer period so I keep products in my desk drawer downstairs. Skin must be dry so after washing my face (once) I wait 20=30 minutes as recommended before applying a pea sized amount of Tretin-A. I wait another 20-30 minutes before using moisturiser. That's it. In the morning I rinse my face with warm water. I don't know how that will work out in the summer months mind. SPF & I'm good to go.
