I remember as a young child my mother making baked eggs in the oven. I think the base must have been breadcrumbs, milk and cheese. Also a chocolate pudding, I assume also made with breadcrumbs, milk and cocoa, there was a layer of raspberry jam on the bottom. Both were delicious, wartime dishes I guess. My grandmother was a dreadful cook but made amazing cakes, especially a Victoria sponge. As for comfort food, a bacon sandwich is always good, slow cooked casseroles with mashed potato, proper shepherds pie made with leftover roast lamb. Everyone remembers and misses Pan Yan pickle, strange it disappeared.
I have one of those extra large Pot Noodles containers. Bought it about 12 years ago, it's for capturing spiders so I can't see them. I slide a piece of card under it and flick them out of the door! The original contents didn't appeal and went straight in the bin.

Premier Foods launched a public appeal for anybody who had a jar of Pan Yan to come forward earlier this year.
I wonder if that means they might produce it again. The article mentions Ploughman's Lunch, once a staple in pubs. I've not seen that about for a good few years
Another condiment that has disappeared from most shops is OK Fruity Sauce, much beloved by Mr Nell. It can still be bought in Chinese supermarkets and, in fact, I bought a few jars online from one once but they have since stopped that aspect of the business. ☹️

I vaguely remember OK sauce and assumed it was a fruity brown sauce along the lines of Daddies or HP. For that reason, although I love brown sauce, I've always avoided the Chinese takeaway OK Sauce option. I wonder if I should risk disappointment and give it a try, it just doesn't sound right.
That's an outrageous price - they are quite small bottles.
I hate OK sauce - it's thicker than Daddies or HP and doesn't have the zinginess that they have. If you let me have your address, I'll send you some in an envelope to try. It won't come to any harm and the journey might improve the flavour.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
Thanks for the offer Nellie, I'll pass on this occasion but if I really do want to try it, I'll pop down the Wan King Dragon for some with a chow mein.
