I can't believe it's already been 2 years since we got the phone call. We'd given up hope of getting a Spinone from rescue, as they're quite a rare breed and fortunately don't end up in rescue too often.
We'd literally just walked through the door when the phone went. The lady asked if we were still looking for a dog, and if so, we were in a position to take her immediately. After she'd told me all about The Princess, I didn't need to hear any more. She said she'd email a photo, then ring me back. As soon as we saw the photo, that beautiful sad face, we were in love, and when she rang back, I immediately said we'd love to have her.
Arrangements were made for her to come to us the following day, and she duly arrived. She was very withdrawn and shy, didn't seek any affection, and generally looking frightened and bewildered.
It's taken quite a while for her to come out of her shell and gain confidence, but it's been worth all the effort. We adore her, she's been easy to love, and seeing her gradually come out of her shell has been so rewarding. She's even begun to be friendlier towards other dogs, and is quite adventurous when we're out.
All in all, it's been a great experience and one we'd happily do again.
She has a lovely face Cogs and she has gone to a very happy home. I don't know anything about this breed, are they wire haired as in the terrier family?
Some early mornings I see a tall cream coloured dog passing the house. It's tall, long legged and has the same head... long ears and coat as Princess. I wondered if that was a Spinone.
They're supposed to have a rough wiry coat that needs hand stripping. The Princess doesn't, could be either bad breeding, or spaying too early, or even shaving the coat. Whatever the reason, we don't care, I brush her and clip her face and paws to keep her tidy.
It certainly sounds like a Spinone, the cream colour is more usual, sometimes with 'orange' or 'lemon' roan patches. One way to tell for sure, is to feel it's head, as Spins have peculiar lumpy pointy skulls. Does it look like this?
