In 1987, Pixies released their debut EP 'Come On Pilgrim', which augmented the debut LP 'Surfer Rosa' the following year. But that EP was supposed to be the original LP. 4AD, the record label, removed 'Here Comes Your Man', later re-recorded on the brilliant 'Doolittle' LP and Black Francis (Pixies singer) removed several other tracks. They were re-collected on another EP released much later called 'The Purple Tapes'. I just ordered my copy which will fill a hole in the collection.
New Stranglers song (and album I think), the first since Dave Greenfield died. I gather his keyboard work was used in this, and it's probably more like original the Stranglers sound than I've heard in years which is good. Video features Stuart "Psycho" Pearce (ex Nottingham Forest, Newcastle Utd, West Ham). I think I like it although Baz Warne will never replace Hugh Cornwell, and Jet Black has finally retired. .
Peaking Lights just get better with every album, although thoughtful shoegazing Fall Forum types might prefer their earlier proggy ambient noodlings. I'm happy with both, this from 2020 as played outside a Teesside hospital this afternoon.
