I've got 3 birthstones, pearl, moonstone and alexandrite. I do like pearls, have got lots of pearls mixed with other gemstones, and I have a couple of pieces of alexandrite, but I don't own any moonstone.
Waiting to hear from DD - I assume she's not called Diamond Diva for nothing...........
Does Cariad like Clogau? What are Lil's special pieces? Is Y a white or yellow gold kinda gal? Does EB ring the changes with her piercings? I know Cass likes pearls cos I've seen them
If only Sacha and Snarly were here.
BTW, I'm not overly fond of my birthstone - ruby - but I do have a beautiful Edwardian, claret coloured garnet ring. Does anyone make a point of wearing their own birthstone?
I'm here my lovely. Must have have had a sixth sense about this thread!
I love all coloured gemstones and have had a nice time this weekend watching some of Rocks&Co showcasing a brand new Kat Florence collection. With the designer herself co presenting some of the shows and also the inimitable Don Kogen, who sourced all the gemstones on show, presenting others. Some superb gemstones inc Muzo Colombian Emeralds, Blue blue Sapphires and Black Opals set in masses of 18ct gold and clustered in hundreds of VS diamonds.

I know Snarly loves her Annie Haak and Lola Rose bracelets. ) I also know I may have pointed her in the direction of both.
a) Gemstone - Well it has to be diamonds doesn't it! Closely followed by AAAA Tanzanite, Colombian Emerald, Indicolite and Rubelite b) Cut of stone - Love all cuts some stones suit specific one's but I do love an emerald or princess cut c) Precious metal - It has to be gold either yellow or white but for everyday wear it tends to be silver d) Style (ie contemporary, Victorian, ornate, showy, plain etc) Not really fussed it's whatever catches my eye e) Generally preferred Item of jewellery (ie rings, earrings, necklace etc) Rings every time for me closely followed by pendants or necklaces f) Designers (Tiffany, Honora, Theo Fennell, Van Cleef & Arpels, Hot Diamonds, Butler &Wilson etc) Not really in to 'designer' jewellery but my most favourite pieces are all TJC's Iliana's (Bought back in the day when they had decent pieces at a good price and of course I was working LOL) g) Most treasured and worn piece - I would be hard pressed to choose one but I suppose it's one I wear more than any other is a half eternity ring with a carat of Iliana diamonds in 9 stones set in white gold, it's one of those pieces that can we worn anytime and anywhere
Probably easier to say what I don't like! I don't do green, apart from Alexandrite and Emerald (and a little bit of Peridot), and I don't like Tanzanite! I like opaque stones - particularly Turquoise and Mookite - and 'proper' gemstones.
b) Cut of stone
Any, pretty much, although less keen on square or round cut, prefer oval, octagon.......must be north/south in a ring though. Have quite a few trilliant cut too. Don't like baguette cut diamonds. Hate rings that stick up too far from the finger so cabochons are better for very large stones.
c) Precious metal
I have a few gold rings, bought before the price went stupid. Now I tend to buy silver or stainless steel. Most of my belly bars are titanium!
Any as long as it is not too fussy. Can't be doing with accents up the wazoo, as it were! I mostly prefer stones of one type/colour, except maybe in a bracelet.
e) Generally preferred Item of jewellery (ie rings, earrings, necklace etc)
The items that I have the most of are rings and earrings. I always wear rings, earrings, simple necklace, simple bracelet(s) and a belly bar. The rings I change most days depending on mood and what I'm wearing (plenty of scope as I always wear at least 5 in addition to wedding finger!). 2nd ear piercings are always my diamond studs, 3rd and 4th in right ear are always pink sapphire studs. The bottom holes are then available for whatever dangly I feel like that day! Bangles, fancier bracelets, fancier necklaces are added if I am dressing up!
f) Designers (Tiffany, Honora, Theo Fennell, Van Cleef & Arpels, Hot Diamonds, Butler &Wilson etc)
No particular one - I have a few B&W items but because I liked them not because they were B&W. I would be happy with any but am not fussed if I don't have any designer pieces. Actually, I tell a lie!! There is one designer that I would kill for one of his jewellery items. Unfortunately, the ones I like are not cheap so I will probably never get one. Somewhat unusual but I absolutely love this chap:
Other than engagement/wedding ring, most worn would be my diamond studs - they have barely been out of my ears since I got them years ago. Most treasured? Hmmm. My gran's engagement ring - 18ct/platinum Ceylon Sapphire and diamond, given to her in 1922 - would be up there. I had some beautiful, much-treasured pieces that OH had bought me, but we had to sell them a few years back to keep a roof over our heads! My rainbow sapphire bracelet, bought with some money from my dad (some of you probably remember it from elsewhere!), is another piece that I would never part with.
I used to only wear gold and had just a few reasonably expensive pieces. After we sold them I went for cheap and cheerful and lots of it. I wear loads at a time but don't have to worry about how much 'money' I am wearing. And I will never have to sell it cos it wouldn't be worth the bother!
Interesting EB. I'm sorry you had to sell your gold pieces but I'm sure you would say needs must. But by interesting I mean that your style/taste has changed now you've bought new pieces. I wonder if it would have changed anyway.
And oh yes I absolutely remember the bracelet. Really pleased you were able to get that wonderful memory piece with the money from your dad. I hope you enjoy wearing it!
Marcasite -I love marcasite. I've got a marcasite brooch given to me by a very good friend that I wear a lot. I saw someone wearing a seed pearl & marcasite ring years ago and lusted after it. Never seen its like since.
Seed pearl and marcasite would probably make it Victorian Min. I press my nose against antique shops so will yell if I see anything. I've recently had two ruby and seed pearl rings repaired. You don't see seed oearls much these days but they are pretty.
They are pretty, but I think they have a tendency to fall out of settings. I've seen a brooch on eBay but two of the seed pearls were missing & I thought the seller was asking too much so didn't bother.
I think my changing taste is mostly due to my changing circumstances! It is a way of cheering myself up and brightening my day. It is also a result of doing little but watch shopping telly for the last few years! Shopping is a way of distracting myself, getting parcels gives me something to look forward to but I can't afford a huge amount so I go for lots of inexpensive stuff!
I also changed following my accident, I suppose. I decided that life was unpredictable and too short to worry what people thought. If I want something, and it is attainable, then I should go for it. I don't need to conform for work either! Most of my extra piercings and tattoos are a consequence of that and so is my adopting a less conservative style of clothing and indulging my inner hippy!!

Replacement seed pearls come in at around £10 each so bear that in mind. The bugger is matching them but they're so cheap on one of my rings I asked him just to replace both rather than puzzle his head to get a matching pair. He originally thought more like £35 per pearl but not so when he actually bought the pearls.
