Having just read another article , this time in The Guardian, about vinyl becoming popular again I wondered how many of us still have our original collections? We do. Haven't played any of them for a while. The backs of the covers of the LPs are ripped where our first cat used to scratch her claws against them back in the day. It's never crossed our minds to ditch the collection.
We've got an inherited stash from father-in-law in the garage just waiting for my son to take them away. He likes vinyl though I'm not sure Mantovani etc is his cup of tea!
I used to have loads of vinyl, but I sold the rare stuff (mainly obscure 12" singles, but some LPs too) when I was mega-skint. I kept the rest till my turntable gave out, but never replaced the turntable as I was buying all CDs by this time. I think I have a few vinyl LPs and 12" singles left, but anything that I had before that I was missing I replaced with CDs or ripped from illicit sites.
If I've already bought the vinyl, I have no qualms about ripping off an illegal site. The artist has already had my money, so I don't consider it dodgy.
It is useful when you're a bit cash strapped though....
