IKWYM Mr M, my two really want to go out but as soon as they step out of the door they're straight back in again giving me a look that says 'can't you turn off the wind/rain?' (delete as appropriate)

Ruby won't let a bit of wind put her off. She's really mastered running down the garden sideways.
I'm up now (04:23) because of the wind. "Reel in the canopy above the patio doors," I said. "It's bouncing around like fun," I said ... I've just done it.
It's still bad here. I got up at 5.30 to a freezing cold house. I forgot to adjust the boiler yesterday after the power cut. I am hoping the winds die down a bit this morning. The roof of the house is still on anyway!
The thing that makes laugh with cats when the weather is bad - having refused to go out of the back door, they go to the front door, or vice versa, convinced all will be fine there lol!
I remember, when I was teaching, that the children got hyper when it was windy (for some bizarre reason.) They were more reliable than a barometer. 😳
Cats can be like that as well T, I quite often see mine hurtling around the garden when it's windy.
Does Katya like being out at night FP? I can't keep Millie in at night unless it is bitterly cold. She has always preferred to be out as long as I have had her. She likes to curl up on the mat in the open porch regardless.

I've heard of this behaviour too, annoyingly I also have no idea how or why it happens.
As for Millie, I have to put her out at night, unless it's just too cold or wet, as if I don't she's scratching at the bedroom door by 4am. I've taken to sending her out early evening while the weather's been bad and letting her back in before bedtime. That way she will go through the night without disturbing us.
In the old house the cats were confined to the kitchen and dining room at night but the new house is configured differently, the first night here I shut them in the kitchen, Harry yelled all night which was unsettling for me and him and it didn't give them the space they were used to or places to get away from each other. In an effort to get some sleep I gave them access to all the rooms except the lounge and my bedroom, that wasn't much better as he just sat outside my door yelling about 4.00 or 5.00 am! They've always had a litter tray so I thought he was trying to get me to feed him so I tried moving their last meal to when I go to bed and other than the occasional half hearted mew, which I ignore, that worked!
