A friend of mine was a vegetarian for a few years and switched to a vegan diet 2-3 years ago. She looks bluddy awful. She complains of acid reflux, has had to have B12 shots and more recently osteoporosis infusions. But there we are, she insists it's nothing to do with her diet so it must be true.
What I really don't understand is, having made the decision to give up meat entirely, why is it necessary to have pretend meat foodstuffs like bacon, sausages, mince and Gregg's fake bakes.
You don't see carnivores fashioning lamb chops into sprout shapes.
I heard an ad on the radio today for a vegetarian restaurant (can't recollect the name of it) for their vegan tuna which was actually seered watermelon served warm, there's no way that's going to taste remotely tunaish so what's the point of that?
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right, the only difference is they're wrong
You don't see carnivores fashioning lamb chops into sprout shapes.
That's funny, but an interesting word there. As humans we are omnivores not carnivores, and certainly not herbivores. So these vegans (apologies to any vegans here) are not going to get their full dietary requirements eating twigs and bracken and Linda McCartney's bloody quorn sausages. And so as Liv pointed out, they end up having vitamin suppliments and whatever else to make up for the pork chops and the coq-au-vin. Makes no sense to me.
You'd still get Laughing Boy from The Smiths twirling his gladioli at you and shouting "Meat is Murder"
Actually at no point did he sing "Meat is murder" - there was the song title and album title, but no lyric. The closest lyric from the song is "it's murder".
Heifer whines could be human cries Closer comes the screaming knife This beautiful creature must die This beautiful creature must die A death for no reason And death for no reason is murder And the flesh you so fancifully fry Is not succulent, tasty or kind It's death for no reason And death for no reason is murder And the calf that you carve with a smile Is murder And the turkey you festively slice Is murder Do you know how animals die? Kitchen aromas aren't very homely It's not "comforting", cheery or kind It's sizzling blood and the unholy stench Of murder It's not "natural", "normal" or kind The flesh you so fancifully fry The meat in your mouth As you savor the flavor Of murder No, no, no, it's murder No, no, no, it's murder Oh...and who hears when animals cry?
As excellent a solution as it is, Frazz , I'm not sure how that would work when it came time to prepare the veganpigs for the table......
Well, it's blooming obvious Nellie!
They would die naturally in vegan run farms. I'm assuming if the world stops eating meat, having no viable value, this is how livestock would be cared for until they become extinct. Feeding and stopping them breeding for a couple of decades could tricky, I'm still thinking it through . . .
Found throughout the world, pigs are kept by humans as companions and livestock, as well as living in wild populations. Pigs that are well cared for live an average lifespan of 15 to 20 years --
Of course, if you don't fancy giving up meat there's always Dry January.
What with no meat, no alcohol, diets after Christmas binges, gym subscriptions, resolutions made to change the way you behave etc -it seems to me that January is a punishing month for those who wish to be martyrs.
