There are quite a few songs that have a sound that is familiar.
I have never composed a song but I would have to guess that all your past musical audio experiences would have an effect on your effort. I don't believe they did it on purpose and I think the case will be appealed.

I think they did know what they were up to apple because another song has also been highlighted although it must be tricky writing something new but others manage.
I think apple's right - there are only so many notes and so many chords that it must be almost impossible for a songwriter not to replicate something that has been done before.
I'm a big Marvin Gaye fan and I quite like Blurred Lines and Pharrell Williams - although Robin Thicke seems like a complete sleazebag - but I hadn't spotted the similarity.
Shame Marvin isn't still with us to benefit from this though.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.

If you read all the articles there is a definite sense of these two were expecting this and trying to extricate themselves before the proverbial hit the fan. The children are trying to get the song stopped or if not a % of the profits.

Nellie, I am not a big fan of Robin Thicke either, in fact I sort of get the same read on him as you.
I did not hear the similarity in the songs, I enjoyed the song though it is on my gym play list.
