Now I see why Toril, you have an Iguana in your avatar! Can you hold Iguanas? I like snakes myself and I have had a 20ft python around my neck, totally no fear of snakes where I am scared stiff of spiders.
I have a Nikon L830, this is a bridge camera that is a stepping stone between compact and SLR. It has 24x optical zoom and 20MP resolution but no matter what you use, conditions and lighting are everything.
The photo in my avatar is of Gromit, who was my 5 foot iguana. Sadly he died of bile duct cancer a few years ago. I used to be a moderator on a reptile forum where there were 4000 members and so he became quite well-known online. I also wrote a book about him, which was published after his death, and so more people became aware of him and his antics. Obviously I had no fear of holding him. He free roamed during the afternoons and when he got into mischief I had to pick him up (especially when he was climbing my curtains.) And when he wasn't exploring he'd often come over and sit on my knee. He weighed nearly 4 kgs so I certainly felt his presence.
I also like snakes ... in fact, I like all reptiles (but particularly lizards.) I'm not scared stiff of spiders, but if one runs across the floor it quickly ascends to play a harp (if you get what I mean. )
Thanks for answering the question about the camera. One of my hobbies is photography and so I'm always interested in what other people use to get lovely photos like yours. I've got a Fuji bridge camera, a Canon SLR and two compact cameras for the "I must get a photo of that" situations, when I haven't got the time to sort out the different lenses for the other cameras.

Thank you so much for telling me all about Gromit, he sounded quite a characterand I guessed that some iguanas weigh a fair bit.
I didn't understand about the harp effect if you saw a spider though. But they make me shudder whereas snakes do not cause me that.
So a bridge camera is ideal for me and to not pay three times the amount for an SLR where also you may be having to change lens.
There is another trip end of April to historic motor museum and I probably will get very good photographs from that. If anybody has this interest in classic cars then maybe I can post some of the results on YY.
