We have just lost our remaining chicken, Maggie May.
It was obvious yesterday she was on her way out and yet the day before she was happily mooching round the garden, annoying the dog by pecking grass seeds out of her coat! Very funny when she obviously pecked a bit hard and Rosie yelped and told her off, but Maggie just carried on and Rosie went back to sleep!
Yesterday, though, she was very subdued early on, didn't want to come out of her run and wasn't eating. Then she seemed to get wobbly on her pins and just sat in the corner of her run. She didn't seem distressed so we just let nature take its course and this morning she had gone. Our other chickens went very suddenly too - I guess it is just what chickens do.
We will give the coop and run a jolly good Karcher and then decide if we will get some more. Typically, we had just bought a large bag of chicken food so we will probably need something to eat that!
We called the first one Ruby (she was a 'Red Rock') but couldn't think of a name for the other one. She was a 'Magpie' hybrid so OH suggested Maggie - and then said 'ooh, Ruby Tuesday and Maggie May!!' and that was that. We are just wondering if we should keep the song tune naming thing going if we get some more chickies!

Oh do!! My dad always named his cattle. The first of the Murray Greys was called Minty. After that each one had a mint themed name Pepper, Butter, Glacier and so on lol
