If I get a cough I find the juice of half a lemon, some honey and boiling water better than anything I have ever bought over the years, and a good dollop of scotch or brandy in the one last thing at night. Works for me.
There was an interesting program on BBC2 about a week ago, it was about over the counter remedies and whether or not they work and are they good for you, worth watching on iPlayer. Basically, they said honey & lemon works best and paracetamol for fever, and even if one product works for you it may well contain things that you don't need that are bad for you. Big business though.

A Radio 1 DJ was unable to present his show on Monday ( name escapes me) as he had lost his voice due to a rowdy weekend - he was told no lemon and was back on his show today. This was a tip he was given by a singer friend.
I try not to take anything for a cold and I have to be knocking on death's door to take time off or go and see a doctor. I do take paracetamol if I have a headache and I do take cold and flu pills if I'm really struggling. Or so I can keep going.
I was really poorly with a cold flu thing at Christmas. This was nowhere near as bad. But my voice has been anywhere from a whisper to Barry White. It is my weak spot though and I really do sound a lot worse than I actually am. Its good for the sympathy vote though.
Wasn't it Cog's who told us to gargle with cider vinegar at Christmas? I think it may have also involved honey, I did try it and it seem to help the sore throat.
