I can see that there are advantages to satnavs but I do think they are a menace.
People are very distracted by them and don't bother to investigate their routes before they set off so often make very last minute, exaggerated swerves off main roads to the exit roads the should be taking.

It is Nellie. But you're OK if you're using a phone hands-free whether as a phone or a sat nav. And its the same for "using" a sat nav. Once you start poking at either one, if you're the driver, you could be seen as breaking the law. I think a lot of people don't realise that the rules are the same. Its technically a different offence but using a stand alone sat nav doesn't protect you from being pinched if you're fiddling with it. Oo-er!!
