We decided to go to the country park today for our walkies. We were on our way back to the car, when we saw a woman walking towards us, she had 5 dogs, one, a pug in a buggy.
She had a lovely young boxer who ran up to say hello to the Princess. As she got near us, I noticed something on the path, that I thought was a stick, till I realised it was actually an adder. I shouted 'no' and Mr Cog grabbed the Princess, but the little boxer ran straight up to it and it struck her. She literally jumped up in the air, and the horrible thing slithered off.
The woman at first didn't seem that concerned, but I told her her dog had definitely been bitten, you could see a red mark on her face. She then decided that she better get her to the vet,
We put the princess on the lead and got back to the car pronto.
Blooming horrible things, what with them and ticks, you have to be constantly on the alert.
How frightening Cog. A neighbour found a nest of the slitherers when digging footings for his extension. They like to sunbathe on banks but I suppose footpaths will do.
Oh that's just awful. We have grass snakes on the allotment that most assume are adders. They don't actually do any harm. I still don't like them though.
I was bitten by an adder as a child. It was bloody painful, throbbed like all get out. Will make that poor pup feel very poorly for a day or two.
