5 o'clock this morning it started. Bleep, followed 20 seconds later by another, and then at 20 second intervals.
A while later it stopped.
We went out in the horrible drizzle, walked the Princess and came back.
We had lunch, watched the news, then it started again. Bleep, bleep, bleep!
Mr Cog was convinced it was the smoke detector upstairs, but I said no, it was definitely coming from the downstairs hall. He got the steps out to change the battery, when Bleep! It wasn't that smoke detector. I went upstairs and stood between the smoke detectors up there to wait for the inevitable Bleep! Bleep! But it wasn't coming from upstairs.
So there we were, completely baffled. Bleep! Then the lightbulb moment, it was the bleeping carbon monoxide detector in the utility room near the boiler big laugh
I can identify with that because the same things happened to me ............ twice, and it's always in the wee small hours. The first time I knew it was the smoke alarm upstairs, but the second time I couldn't track it down. It was 3 a.m. and I didn't relish pin-pointing which of the two smoke alarms it was, or whether it was the carbon dioxide one in the kitchen so I took all the batteries out until the morning. And to be on the safe side, I bought 3 new batteries in the morning and replaced them all. They are important to have in a house, but goodness knows why they always 'fail' when we're asleep.
That'll do it Lily, my next door neighbour's smoke detector goes off every Saturday evening when she's cooking their steaks and again on Sunday morning when she does the bacon LOL
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right, the only difference is they're wrong
A few years ago my mother-in-law rang Himself to tell him that there was a bird trapped in the house. We were about to go to town so I dropped him off to sort it out. They searched high & low for this blessed bird, he even went up in the attic but there was no sign of it. I rolled up with the girls a while later & said 'The smoke alarm. Battery needs changing." No, they were having none of that & continued the search. I let them carry on...........LOL
I always knew when the sausages under the grill were done when the smoke alarm went off.
