My grandmother, whose surname was Winterbottom, had a friend who would address letters to Mrs Winterbee because she couldn't bring herself to write the word 'bottom'. She would have had an apoplectic fit at some of those names!

Personally I think they are very funny and some people are a little too sensitive for their own good! Most of the WI people I know would have been laughing themselves silly! It seems to be a case of someone getting offended on other's behalf without actually asking them!
