Two of my sister's show their dogs and this year they again both qualified for Crufts (the dogs that is, not my sister's LOL) and although they love going they don't expect to get anywhere, this year one of the dogs got a 5th in it's class!
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right, the only difference is they're wrong
Aww, I love those Shelties, lovely bundles of fur. Your sisters did well Diamond Diva .
Our huge bundle of fur, a rough collie came from a rescue centre when he was a year old and came with his Kennel Club papers. Apparently his 'grandmother' was a Crufts champion. The only thing our lovely boy excelled in was looking scruffy! Lol
I loved the Westie. I love terriers though. We had a border collie when we were kids and a lassie type sheepdog. But then as a teenager I had a Jack Russell. He was a real character.
One of my friends has a Westie. I call him the white woolly Hoover. He's constantly searching the floor for crumbs lol. He's a poorly boy though so he might not be around for much longer.
Three-year-old Cruaghaire Catoria was judged to be the best example of her breed at the dog show in Birmingham on Saturday. But viewers took to social media to express their outrage, saying her abnormally sloped back and painful gait was 'cruelty'. The secretary of the Kennel Club admitted last night that there are judges in the competition who disregard breeding standard guidelines, and said that if necessary the German Shepherd breed could be removed from the 125-year-old competition. Clare Balding, who presented the coverage of the dog show on Channel 4, said the dog looked 'distinctly unsettled', and the RSPCA have slammed Crufts for allowing the dog to progress so far in the competition
We've seen quite a few GSDs lately who look like they're walking on their back knees. It's awful, how on earth breeders can think this is a good thing is beyond me. They look positively deformed now.
Apparently there was another who was really upset, didn't want the judge handling them, and didn't want to trot round the ring either. Poor thing look positively terrified.
As you know, I'm a big dog person, and in 36 years of having dogs, it's usually the little ones who've approached mine and tried to have a go. My old boy wasn't one to take any truck, so would disdainfully put a big paw on the offender, putting it in its place.
GSD's fall into two categories the old shape and this newer one where the back legs seem very short and if the judge has a particular preference for one or the other that's when complaints occurr
There are two types/styles of Sheltie's too my sisters have the original one's and say it's a waste of time entering them when certain individuals are judging as they won't get anywhere because he/she doesn't like that style
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right, the only difference is they're wrong
You've hit the nail on the head Diamond Diva, I've heard that a lot from Spinone people, some of whom have given up entering the Gundog category. Did you notice Clare Balding walked straight past the Spin without a word?
The other bond of contention is that you can't enter Crufts with a docked Spinone. Not that I'm in favour of docking, I'm not, dogs are born with tails for a reason, but there are a lot of unhappy owners who want to see this rule rescinded.
