The couples radioed the Coast Guard and were informed that someone had reported their dog as falling overboard nearly three hours earlier.
They then took Jagermeister to the nearest Coast Guard station, where his delighted owner was reunited with him.
Mrs Sahr said: "He had tears. He said 'I had searched as long as I could and we just couldn't see him, and we just thought we lost him'."
The little dog, who was wearing an animal life vest, is thought to have fallen in when his owner went below deck.
