Youve a few places to pick from @itchy , having moved about a bit
Yes, but none of them stand out in terms of local cuisine. Well maybe the steak sandwiches in Australia. I had never eaten steak until we moved there (too poor!).
I never had a steak as a kid either, plenty of food but steak would have been far too expensive then
As you know, we left Old Blighty in the dark depressing 70s. Australia was like the promised land. Steak, Orange Juice, water melons and so many things at the tender age of 12 I had never eaten. The quality of life was 1,000,000 times better and much cheaper too.
Of course it is not the same now, but back then they wanted young families out there and paid you to go.
It was called 'Assisted Passage' and you had to stay 2 years or pay a hefty sum to the Australian Government as they brought you out there with very little costs incurred by you.
We stayed two years. Nothing to do with me. I cried for a week when I learnt we were coming back.
