I just looked at QVC Diamond Diva, they have a small selection of laptops, on easy pays. No idea how their price compares but at least you get a lot of product info. In the past I've used a site called Techradar for reviews of electronic stuff, though sometimes too much information can get confusing!
I've been looking on line at an Asus X553SA 4GB 1TB, it looks suitable for what I need it to do and the reviews are OK
I've been using an Asus for about two years now, Diamond Diva, and it seems to be proving reliable. Don't know what model it is, but they seem popular atm.
Don't get me started on touchpads though, like FP said, I'm hopeless. I love my mouse.
Thanks Sacha, I've used Techradar for reviews before it's a useful site.
I've been doing some research this afternoon and whatever laptop I've looked at they all have mixed reviews. A lot of the bad/negative reviews seem to be because they've not looked at the spec properly and they've bought a laptop that's not suitable for their needs i.e. 'It's no good for gaming' then they should have bought a more powerful one, 'It came with Windows 10', why buy it if you wanted Windows 8? Professionals poo poo anything that costs under £750-£1,000 so they're not really much help either. I've discounted most of them and looked at the one's who have written a constructive review and the ASUS X553SA seems to have faired quite well plus it come's with Windows 10 already installed! I was in two minds whether to have the 4GB or 8GB RAM version, my current laptop has 4GB so decided to go for the same, I can always upgrade it later if I need to and so having made a decision I've gone for it and ordered one. click here

My new laptop arrived on Thursday but knowing how long it takes to set it all up I haven't had a chance until today. It's taken all afternoon and most of the evening to check. scan and install everything but happy to report I'm now up and running properly, no ethernet cable, no buffering, no freezing touchpad or screen and continually having to do a hard restart to release it and although it has the same RAM it's much faster so it looks like Talktalk were right about the fault being my PC and not the router (I knew it would be when the tablet was working OK). So far I really like the Asus it's not dissimilar to my Acer and I already had Windows 10 so am finding it easy to use. My painter was an IT guy and still teaches a couple of days a week and he's suggested there may have been a corruption in the last drive updates and says I should check Acers website and see if I can install the earlier version. It's worth a go so will look into it when I've got time if not I may ask him to look at it for me, that way I can have a proper working spare. I found the receipt for the Acer when I was looking for the documents to tax the car, it's only 16 months old!

The old Dell is now running OK for Mr FP after FP minor inserted some extra Ram DD.On the Lenovo Windows 10 has definitely slowed down the time it takes to load my silhouette design studio software, it seems to be the fonts that are forever loading. It never used to load them separately on W7. It downloaded a W10 update the other day and when the screen came back on my personalised screen had gone and been replaced by a bogstandard microsoft one. Fortunately I had the pic I usually have to hand and it didn't take long to get back to normal. Why do they do these things? Very frustrating!
Before I bought mine I checked the one in the shop to ensure it had Caps/Number Lock icons, it did but when I set it up mine didn't have them so can only assume they had added an extension to provide it! Windows 10 allows you to turn on an audible one but I find that annoying, Keyboard-LED and Traystatus both do a free download but I don't want to bring in loads of additions or problems, can anyone recommend a reliable one please? Yes, it is a worry, I think if the site is McCafee, or whoever, recommended it should be okay. You just have to remember to activate it when you logon which is annoying until you get use to it. I keep the icon on the desktop.
