Before the rescue of the Italian Jewels took place, we were trying to get 4 Spinoni over from Italy. They had new homes lined up, they'd all had their health checks, passports and paperwork ready, but unfortunately, the lady who'd rescued them was reported to the authorities for having too many dogs in her care. The suspicion was that it was a hacked off hunter who she'd refused to adopt a dog to.
The day before they were due to travel, the dogs were impounded, and their new owners were left devastated. One of the prospective owners travelled to Italy to check on them, and to try to get the situation resolved. With the surplus money from the Jewels fund, it was agreed that a local lawyer would be hired to fight to get them back and on their way.
We all wrote to the authorities begging them to release the dogs, but it's fallen on deaf ears.
We heard today that a hunter has taken Guilia, and there's no hope of getting the others. We can only pray that they'll go to good homes and not to hunters who'll use them and either dump them or stop feeding them. Sophia, who was going to the lady who had Phoebe, had come a long way since her rescue, but since going back to kennels, has reverted to her former frightened, withdrawn state.
We're all devastated, and I can't even begin to imagine how their new owners must be feeling, it's just sad beyond words, and to make matters worse, the hunter who's taken Guilia, posted a photo of her in the back of his truck, and is grinning like a hyena and giving the finger
It's horrible feeling so helpless, please let the others be safe.
It's all political @lewis, there are some hacked off hunters who had it in for the lady who took the dogs in. Sadly, the welfare of the dogs is if no importance to the authorities.
I can't get that man's smug face out of my mind, and if I had the chance, I'd like to wipe it off with a blunt object
I feel so gutted for their owners here, who've all been waiting patiently and desperately hoping.
Apparently, Guilia's new owners have already been posting photos of her out in the field. He probably doesn't know she's been neutered, so may change his mind about keeping her when he does. I just hope if he doesn't want her, she goes back for rehoming, and he doesn't destroy her in a fit of pique.
