What a rip off and what a less than exciting TSV. Is this his retirement fund TSV? We all know places where we can get bird supplies like this cheaper.Aldi had them on special buy on the 21st. The only reason I can think of is that you need it delivering to you because you have no way of getting it home. Bah! Humbug QVC!
I buy one regularly online with the same ingredients. It's twice the size for half the price and I've had no complaints from my feathered friends.
Can I ask anyone else who feeds the birds regularly, how often do you clean out the feeders? I've just been on the RSPB site and they recommend cleaning them daily!!! I wash mine out occasionally with boiling water but there is no way I could clean them that often as the birds don't empty the feeders daily.
Our feeders don't last the year. Himself hooks them onto a branch of a tree and the big boys are clever in knocking them to the ground. As for the food, we buy fat balls from Aldi/ Lidl/ The Range.
Where Mr Tink used to live he used to get nuthatches coming to the feeder. Don't think I've seen them "in the real" before or since. There was a whole family of them chippering away.
He used to have woodpeckers around to but mainly green ones.
He's there now swinging around on the feeder. The little Pied Wagtail is also out there, bobbing around on the ground beneath him pecking at what is dropped.
I put out peanuts for the squirrels (bought a 22kg bag in Spring and still have loads left) and I also hang up fat balls for the birds. The birds go for the fat balls but when the squirrels decide to rush off with them (which they often do) the birds then eat their peanuts. Share and share alike.
