I decided to wear a red jumper/tunic on Christmas Day and, in retrospect, should have worn black! I managed to splash juice/fat on the front of it while carving the turkey. I scrubbed that area with washing up liquid and stain remover and washed it but the greasy mark was still visible. So yesterday morning I put it in a solution of stain removing powder and left it to soak. 24 hours later I put it in the washing machine. The marks are still there.
Has anyone any ideas as to what I could try now, on a grease mark that has been through a washing machine cycle twice and yet is still there? I've splashed stuff on a top before, using the same method I tried on this one, and the marks have always come out before. I really don't want to throw it away but if I don't get the marks out then I could only use the top for gardening or decorating ............ and it's a favourite one.
Thanks in anticipation .............. and yes, I know I should have worn an apron.
I have to admit to being flabbergasted by how good that Vanish stuff is. I bought it on the recommendation of one or two here (or there) to deal with stained white bedding after a tummy bug attack.
I used it in the wash on a dark grey top that had a food stain that hadn't come out previously. Came out first go.
And the vanish is amazing at keeping my white towels and face cloths sparkling.
I usually use Vanish but used a product called Oxy something that I found in the cupboard, because I'd run out of Vanish. Maybe that's why it didn't come out.
Thanks for the link, Mim. I've looked through and have bookmarked it. I may as well blast the mark with all barrels. The only concern is that the grease was dried in by the time I noticed. It was pretty visible so why the ex and son didn't tell me, goodness only knows. Maybe they wanted to be spared my flapping about trying to find something else to wear.
Next year, I will be modelling a bin bag ............. unless I put an apron on my Christmas list.
I popped into Home Bargains this morning and bought the powder version of Vanish and the spray. I intend to soak the top for 24 hours again and then blast it with the spray and we'll see what happens when I put it in the washing machine again. If that fails, I'll put all your suggestions on the mark ... the worst that can happen is that there's no change.
I sprayed the marks with Vanish spray yesterday and then put the top in to soak in a bowl of Vanish powder and water. Did my washing this morning and have just taken the top out of the tumbler.
