It's looking like Jimi Hendrix might be our winner, but I'm surprised no one's picked The Stooges.
Btw the two songs covered by The Fall were The Sonics 'Strychnine' and Monks 'Higgle Dy Piggle Dy', while The Stooges 'I Wanna Be Your Dog' was covered by Clint Boon Experience featuring MES.
Finally why did I miss this early reggae classic, complete with dub version?
Well, I picked my 7 (not listing, too much typing) but they were chosen from later knowledge, iykwim. I didn't really start listening to music until 1972 but I still appreciate some of the earlier tunes. Up till '72 the only music I was really exposed to was what my parents played* - some of that has stayed with me but some of it? Yikes!!
I do prefer the less 'poppy' stuff from the 60s* - later 60s particularly. Not really into Motown and soul, more Who, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and Led Zep.
* I tell a lie - I have fond memories of chasing Kevin Freeman round the dance floor to The Archies 'Sugar Sugar' at my primary school disco in 1969 (Cwmbran, it was!)
