Mine caters for the tourists so we have lots of coffee shops. We have 3 supermarkets which is good. Two quality butchers but no real quality green grocers. The flower shops are excellent. I would love it if we had a Boots.
Our High Street is made up of cafes, tea shops and restaurants - there is a Boots but I've got more toiletries and medicines in my cupboards than they have on their shelves.
I'm surrounded by small towns but they cater pretty well.
The largest is under reconstruction and a bit of a no-go area at the moment, but it has a small mall with an M&S and a good few High Street stores. When the reconstruction is finished there will be a new full sized Sainsburys which I'm looking forward to. There's a market twice a week that has some good food stalls selling cheeses, fish, fresh breads etc. It suits my needs, I rarely go further afield.
We've got a huge M&S and Tesco, big Sainsbury and 2 smaller ones, 2 Lidl, Aldi and 2 Waitrose, and another Waitrose being built. We've got 2 TK Maxx, Dichman Shoes, The Range, huge Next, Army & Navy, Primark, Monsoon, Poundland, Wilkinson, BHS, as well as a multi-plex cinema, bowling alley, lots of small shops, lots of restaurants and coffee shops, just about anything and everything.
I'm 10 minutes away from Westfield at Stratford but have never been - my feet aren't up to massive shopping malls anymore.
We used to visit a mall in Florida that was shaped like an alligator - it was a mile long from the tip of its mouth to the end of its tail with four extra bits branching off to represent the legs. I'd happily wander round there all day!
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
My local town is a city, technically but it feels more like a market town. We have a lovely cobbled high street and three shopping centres but none of them is huge.
Its very definitely commuter belt around here which means the high street has the benefit of a population with high disposable incomes. Shops are rarely unoccupied for long and we have high end stores, independents and lovely boutiques alongside the usual suspects like Next, M&S etc.
Its a pretty town and if its a dry day its a great place to shop. Not do good if its blinking raining.
We have lots of coffee shops and restaurants ... both chains and independents.
Where we really miss out though is on budget stores. We do have a Primark and a Poundland but those are both fairly new and we certainly don't have Lidl, Aldi, Dunelm etc.
The next nearest town is nowhere near as affluent but is all covered so its great on a rainy day. It has been a bit run down but there's been a lot of investment recently and its changing. There are some empty shops there. There are only a few high end stores and its really just the usual suspects. But that said the parking is fabulous and cheap so if I know I only need to go to Boots, Smiths and Superdrug then its a great option.
