I have a Sunday dog. My allotment neighbour has a wonderful collie, Archie. I love him to bits. He's really clever. Very obedient and knows lots of commands. I sometimes see him every week but the are times when I don't see him for weeks on end but he never forgets me. He even spotted me several cars away in the supermarket car park. and even though I'm not his owner he will follow whatever commands I give him.
The powers that be say dogs are not allowed off their leads unless they're in their owners plots. Archie is officially also my dog as he just jumps the fence from her plot to mine whenever he wants. But he never jumps to the plot on the other side of her or me because he knows he's not allowed.
We had cats for 30 odd years but Rosie is our first dog. I miss having a cat and would happily have both again.
I cannot for the life of me understand people who have dogs and then moan about having to walk them or get someone else to do it. Why not get a cat then or a squitty little dog that gets enough exercise running up the stairs? To me, that is the main point of having a dog! Yes, you get companionship as well (although Rosie isn't a dog to tolerate a cuddle!) but I happily go out in all weathers. Except when injured and therefore unable to go I haven't missed a walk in 11 and a half years - we go regardless. Once I am out I get so much enjoyment from watching her splash in puddles, chase squirrels, pounce on leaves etc that it makes it worthwhile. I just wrap up appropriately!
As for the 'deposits', she doesn't often go on a walk and if she does it is usually deep in the undergrowth. Mr EB deals with the garden.
