I've got a dodgy accelerator sensor on my car. The fault is intermittent and can be easily fixed by turning the engine off and on again.
I've decided it needs fixing though as I have a long journey to do in the car in February and another in March.
I always hold my breath though when I get a quote on my car. She's an old dear but she's a Merc so bills are never small. I was hoping it would be somewhere between £400-500. And its come in at about £350 including VAT so I'm happy with that.
I remember in the early days Himself spending hours in the garage - in the days we could actually get the car in the garage - working on his car. You always had to have a matching Haynes Manual when you changed cars. Vital.
Crikey Min. I don't think I ought to be having a go myself lol.
I have a guy who repairs my car off the books. He's my friend's friend's husband and very good he is too. It would probably be another £200 to get it done at Mercedes.
The most interesting aspect of the fault is that you naturally push the accelerator down further when it doesn't work so then when it decides to work you suddenly have your foot to the floor. So I'm going from a snail's pace to warp speed seconds if I'm not careful.
Funny enough though since I took the darned thing in for them to check it on the computer, I haven't had a problem with it!
Car behaving nice in front of the experts - isn't that always the way! Infuriating.
I've had one or two problems with my cars over the years & as soon as I tell Himself & he takes it out for a test drive it disappears. As soon as I drive solo it says 'Hello!'
Mine is going in tomorrow morning to get the problems fixed. I don't know how much it will cost though. 25 years ago, I would have fluttered my eyelashes and asked to pay in installments!! That definitely won't work now.
I have been disconnecting the battery for the last week when I park it. Imagine - up until a week ago I did not even know how to get the bonnet to lift!
OH wouldn't have known what a Haynes manual was back in the day - he didn't 'do' car engines, still doesn't!
I, on the other hand, could frequently be found under the bonnet of my Montego, socket set in hand. Usually on a roundabout or at a junction unfortunately - it would stall and not start so I had to remove the damper from the carburettor, fiddle about with a few things, start it and then wait ten minutes or so till I could put the damper back and drive off. Happy days! I really liked that car - honestly!
Anna can you not get a prepaid prescription card or is it all different over there? It saves a blinking fortune.
No Tinks, we don't have anything like that. You pay what they charge. It costs €50 to see the GP and then prescriptions could cost anything. OH will be on (at least) two prescriptions for the rest of his life and they are €102 per month at the moment. There is no guarantee they won't go up either.
He has to have quite a few endoscopies at the hospital in Dublin each year - they are €75.00 a pop. Expensive country this!
