I’m enjoying it but it’s not Poirot for me. I was quite surprised that Baby Tink wanted to watch it. I’m not sure that he would have been so keen to watch my much loved David Suchet Poirot, even though he has read and does love the books. He texted me last night to remind me it was on!

Heirs and the BBC are after money no doubt but for me it is part of the “ the endless bombardment of “cleverly disturbing” telly” re- imagined by “ screenwriters now consumed with catering to a metropolitan minority’s narrow appetite for culture that blends the high brow with the depraved.”.

What a load of contrive shite from someone who obviously loves the sound of their own voice
Its very simple folks, if you dont like it turn it off
I’ve surprised myself by really enjoying this. No one will ever come close to David Suchet for me (much the same as no one will ever beat Joan Hickson as Miss Marple), but taken for what it is, I thought it was done very well. Incidentally, the David Suchet version is repeated on Sunday (ITV3) if anyone feels like comparing the two?

Haa anyone else read any of the Sophie Hannah new Poirot books? I gave her a chance and have three audible books ‘Closed Casket’ , ‘Monogram Murders’ and ‘The Mystery Of Three Quarters’ but I do not think of them as authentic Poirot.
I enjoyed it very much - no, it's not the same as having David Suchet in the role but John Malkovich was good and I can't remember ever seeing the bit about Poirot's life in Belgium before he moved to England.
Shame there hasn't been another Maigret with Rowan Atkinson this Christmas.
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.

He was a policeman before moving to Britain as a refugee in the War. He stayed at a B&B with a group of Belgian refugees in the village where the Styles House was which was provided by the woman who was the murder victim in ‘The Mysterious Affair At Styles’. I think he had met Hastings before Hastings went to stay at Styles. I think Poirot had a brother called Achilles. Christie referred to Poirot’s days in the police before the war in other books too, but ‘The Mysterious Affair At Styles ‘ was the his first appearance and his last, by Christie, was also set at Styles and called ‘Curtains’.
Just remembered that he invents having a brother in ‘The Big Four’ in his attempts to defeat them.

The writer has not read any AC other than the 3 books she has adapted for television I think it has been said. Wonder what she would do with Brother Cadfael and his Crusader background?
