I bought a pack of minced turkey thigh today for elderly Millie, she needs extra food these days and as she loves raw minced beef, thought I would try her with turkey. She ate some, but was not keen.
I wasnât sure what to do with it, so I made a traditional bolognese sauce and it is delicious! Before I added wine, tomatoes etc, I tried in on Millie again and she loved it, so I will buy some more and cook it for her.
She has blossomed since Iâve been giving her extra treats between meals, we share a tin of sardines/pilchards/tuna every day as well. She still packs in a extra mouse every now and again as well. Bless her, lol!
Mowgli would sell her soul for a bit of raw mince, which was just as well as it was that I used to hide her diabetic pill in every morning. She never twigged. đ
When she was poorly with kidney failure at 18, and before I had to make âthatâ decision, she wouldnât eat anything barring her tiny bit of mince, plus tablet, a beaten raw egg or ....... Heinz tomato soup. đł
She sounds fine Frazz, our Millie is 15 and although she doesn't hunt anymore (a can't be arsed syndrome), she still eats like a horse. While they're eating, I'm pretty sure they're healthy.
Trouble with our Millie and "extra grub", eg her favourite roast chicken leftovers, is she gets picky over her regular grub afterwards.
Poor Millie, it was an ordeal. We had to ring the vet once parked up and wait for the vet to come and collect her from the car. It was over 30 mins by the time the person in front of me spent 10 mins asking the vet silly questions about whether their cat who had just had a tooth taken out would survive. Millie was so stressed by this time in a hot car, I was really worried.
Anyway, following results of a blood test it was confirmed she has a hyper-active thyroid, usual thing given her age. The vet was concerned about her heart-rate, so was I later in the day! She has settled down again now, and is eating her food with the medication on thankfully, hopefully that lasts and helps her keep going for a while.
Apart from all this, she is happy, scoffing, coat in good condition and still hunting anything that moves, as the back half remains of a mouse on the mat proved this morning!

Given with love though! Mr FP is about to carve the roast beef that was left on Sunday. As soon as they hear the electric knife our two will join him in the kitchen.
Very sad day here. The vet very kindly came to the house this morning to put Millie to sleep.
Despite doing well on her meds, her blood test was good a week ago and the vet gave her an injection for an injured leg. She took a dive at the weekend and hadnât eaten since Saturday. Her leg wasnât improving and her look kept telling me it was time. I couldnât face taking her there and was so grateful the vet agreed to come. Itâs upsetting, but also a relief I can stop worrying about her if I become unwell for any reason. Poor Millie.
