Only seen 3 at the moment. It was the same last year, then after a few days a fourth one appeared.
It was end of August when they first nested, so there could be quite a few this year. Certainly doing our bit to boost their numbers. The parents spend time in my garden at night looking for food. I've not seen any yet, but they leave lots of little messages for me!
Hopefully, if it ever warms up and I can have the patio doors open in the evening, I should hear them.
I've got a hedgehog in the garden again I haven't seen one for months, it's not the one who has visited before it's only about the size of a grapefruit probably one of last year's youngsters. I watched it roaming about the lawn for half an hour or so, snuffling and digging in the grass for food it looked like it was eating the ants, it stopped under the bird feeder and didn't move for about 10 minutes so I popped out to check it was OK and it was asleep in the sunshine, bless! After it's nap it did another quick check around the garden and patio then exited under the back gate
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right, the only difference is they're wrong
if they’re out in day time they might be unwell and you mentioned that it was asleep in the sunshine.
And then it did another run round the garden before going off under the fence... sounds ok to me.
Btw, if you ever find a sheep in your garden lying on it's back like this...
...it might not be dead and may in fact be in trouble. They can roll on their backs, but being a bit thick they struggle to roll back over. You must help it roll back over if you see one like this.
Thanks for the link Toril, I'm sure it was OK it looked healthy enough, it was a good size and weight and very active, like the article said it could be it's a pregnant or nursing female. I know they're rarely seen out in the daytime I thought it might have been trying to get some food between the rain showers, will keep an eye out for it over the next few days
