I bought a 3 Tier steamer when 29 was still at home before Uni to try and do more healthy cooking. However both 29 and Mr FP rebelled and it lives on top of the kitchen cupboards. I do have a metal steamer that sits on top of my pans for the Christmas pud. I never could cope with pressure cookers- frightened me to death.
I use one that sits over a saucepan like this one Snarly, the stepped rings at the bottom means it'll fit onto different sized pans, mine's got a lid though
I bought this one recently Snarly and it's the best I've had yet. Much quicker to cook with, sturdier and easier to clean than the electric ones and not too big to use for one person. It's easy to lift with my arthritic shoulders and wrists too. I got it cheaper than this though so might be worth a google for offers.
I have a three tier pan - ordinary pan base with two steamer layers and a lid. It is quite light though. It is used all the time - sometimes just the pan, other times the whole lot. I have had it for years and wouldn't be without it. It really comes into its own at Christmas when all sorts are being cooked and I can cook three veg on one ring, but it is fuel saving at any time.
