This morning, for the first time ever, I have had an email from Tesco before my order is delivered giving me any substitutions and things which are unavailable. Have Tesco been doing this for you for ages? Has Rossendale entered the 21st century?

I've never had one of those Berry. My Tesco delivery van has just left our house. For a change there were no subs or missing items although I have to say generally Tesco are very good and you always get the freshest items and their subs usually work in my favour.... ie I order the Tesco brand which might be unavailable so they sub it with the brand name which is more expensive but I pay the Tesco price

I wouldn’t be without it lily. I do physically visit M&S and Aldi but I don’t enjoy food shopping. It was better when I was a youngster and my mother would send me to the grocer’s where you were served and the grocer cut the cheese with a wire and sliced the bacon and you got to hear all the local news. There was a chair in the corner where you could wait your turn.
We used to get our week’s food and groceries online when I was married, because we both worked full time and the weekends were for doing anything but queuing up in a supermarket.
I haven’t ordered food shopping online since I moved here. I quite enjoy popping out for food, especially as it was a change of scenery during the lockdowns, and I do prefer to be able to select the cuts of meat etc rather than someone else doing it for me. It also means I don’t have the delight of “odd” substitutions.
However, my son orders his food online, because his working hours are ridiculously long, and so if I do run out of something he pops it on his list.
