Dermatologist Natalie Spierings has said there is no need to spend lots of money on skincare because, when you look at the ingredients of different products, they tend to be made from all the same things and there are only three products you need - cleanser, SPF and a moisturiser. She recommended a 'heavy-duty moisturiser' like Vaseline, which she advised applying at night.
"It's a big myth that Vaseline clogs up your skin. We know that's not true from good clinical trials and evidence."
She also said eye cream was "the biggest scam in the skincare industry." She added the evidence-based product that has been known to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles is tretinoin cream.
I'm still in love with Body Shop Hemp, the heavy duty face, and hand cream are the only thing I have used where I can see the difference they make myself.

I like their Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter. I think we had a discussion once before about the hemp hand cream which I liked too. Next time I got to their outlet shop to pick up a tin of cleanser I'll get the hand cream. I'm still working my way through the serums & moisturisers I've received in the past as gifts on my hands.
I just use things that suit my skin but none of them are expensive brands. I also switch between them regularly so my skin doesn’t get used to them. I tried a sample of L’Occitan’s Divine cream, which is about £70+ for a pot, and it was like an oil slick so I won’t use that again. At the moment, I’m switching between an hyaluronic serum and a Korres serum. Both of those sink into my skin.
For my part I will have to disagree with those findings
Ive tried the switch to cheap and cheerful as an experiment previously and it was detrimental to my skin
Fair enough. Experience is everything. I try very hard to avoid anything perfumed because past experience has taught me it doesn't suit my skin, makes my eyes water and I try to keep to a simple routine. I agree with the dermatologist's comments on eye cream. Always gives me milia
