Alarming! 7/10 ten fresh chickens are carrying campylobacter on the skin.
* Asda had the highest number of contaminated chickens at 78% * Co-operative had 73% * Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Waitrose had 69% * M&S 67% * Tesco 64%
M&S are getting on the bandwagon. They are selling (or about to sell) chickens in bags so you don't have to touch the beast just bung in in the oven. Bagged chicken has been around for a while but I bet M&S will make a killing with this idea, riding on the backs of people's fears.
Of course, we have an Official Taster here. A fair bit of it disappears during the carving.
Whatever chickens have been wrapped in since time immemorial would have the same issue - how have we all survive!
Common sense hygiene with hands, worktops etc, don't wash it, cook it properly at a reasonable temperature. Campylobacter is killed with proper cooking, in the same way as salmonella and ecoli is. Careless or bad hygiene is the problem.
