The current TwiXter thread of interest is 1980 songs, one of my favourite years musically. This will be mine tomorrow, hopefully landing inbetween Kenny Rogers and Liquid Gold. ....
Following the Wah Heat song I posted ^^^^, I was alerted to a band fronted by Pete Wylie's brother Phil, Come In Tokio. They never released anything but did three Peel sessions, and they were bloody good.
It's 40 years ago today since Simple Minds released their Sparkle In The Rain album. And what a load of sh*te it was, their first attempt at being U2 which is neither big or clever.
52 years ago this was #1 in the UK charts, according to someone on TwiXter, and so I used the Bauhaus version for the 1980 thread there. Watching the T Rex original again though, I have a feeling this was the song I saw on TOTP aged 7 1/2 which made me sit up and notice music, and not Metal Guru as I had thought. In fact I'm almost certain. I'm not sure if this is the TOTP peformance or not...
Edit probably not the TOTP performance noting the older people sat round coffee tables at the end.
Talking Heads seem to be one of those bands who cut it better live that in studio, annoyingly the sound quality on the live visual of this one is poor so I've used another source...
The latest TwiXter game is "80's follow up albums", ie. the second albums from 80's artists. You have to pick a favourite track too. It's getting a bit silly tbh and the repetition is ludicrous!
This one from 808 State for tomorrow just to mix things up a bit, sneaking in late December 1989...
So many post punk/new wave bands used the dub influence, which works really well if you're fond of post punk, new wave and dub. And you can dance to it.
The flip of a Bauhaus single from that era was a proper dub version, 'In Fear Of Dub'.
There's a random Fall song that's doing rather well in our poll, reaching the last 16 (out of nearly 500), but it's been noted for a long time that it's a rip off of an old Troggs tune....
And as I type it's been voted out of the last 16, but I'll post it anyway for any Troggs fans, plus the rip off.
