I mentioned a while ago that 23 & partner were sharing their rental property with unwelcomed visitors - rats in the attic. After a few visits from the rat catcher it all went quiet.
They are back! They've heard the patter of tiny feet.
The good news is that 23 & partner are moving out March 1st so it won't be their problem. Still, they were moaning & groaning so to demonstrate that it could be worse, I shared this with them

I've become a bit evangelical about recycling - or rather the frequency and complicated nature of it - and some poor unsuspecting man got it in the neck yesterday just because he happened to be standing outside TKMaxx "preaching" the benefits*.
We have no less than four different sacks to divide rubbish into and one slops bucket - well, I ain't using a slops bucket for anyone, this is the 21century, FGS! There is also a garden waste collection but that has to be paid for. It all seemed rather confusing so Mr Nell checked out the council website and downloaded a 36 page document listing exactly what to do with what.......
What irks me most about this is that I know for a fact that our local councillors get free iPads, free iPhones and call charges, free laptops, free personalised stationery, generous expenses for keeping unsocial hours (about £10K per annum), free parking in the whole borough and free admission for themselves and their families to all locally owned amenities like theatres, galleries etc. What happened to the days when councillors worked voluntarily just for the benefit of their neighbourhood?
I'm not saying they take back handers - perish the thought - but isn't it odd that there is less money available to spend on rate payers services like rubbish collection whilst their nest feathering increases.
*He packed up his stall and bid a hasty retreat while I was mid-tirade.
Much as I hate blasted ugly wheelie bins, they do deter rats. It would take a large dexterous rat to scale and flip the lid on a wheelie bin.
I don't mind the food waste bin. We throw away very little food and we do have the garden waste bins.
I'm very pro recycling and reusing things wherever possible. And was one of the first in our area to trial recycling back in day. I was honestly shocked at how much could be recycled. Its different now as packaging had changed but then well over half of our rubbish could be recycled and reused.
Atm our recycling is manageable and collected fortnightly, two separate boxes for plastics and glass and large bag for paper. Plus a big wheelie bin for garden waste, but they stop this in the winter.
But I'm shocked at all those expensive freebies Nellies freeloading councillors are given. There are much cheaper options available in any case.
Hope all goes well with young Mim's DD's move on St David's Day.
It seems to me, based only what I see on the box, that communal waste areas, restaurants and food outlets have a lot to do with the rat population, especially where waste food is put out on the pavements in bags.
I'm not against the recycling of clean packaging, bottles and paper but I do object to FP's inadequate dirty rubbish collection - a situation that must surely encourage rodents and fly tipping - and our refuse arrangements where all the variously coloured but clear sacks must be put by the front gate the night before the dustmen collect (but not in dustbins or they won't take it).
Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to.
