I have some diced beef I bought last week, SBD is 08/03 but usually a couple of days is fine as it has been kept in the fridge. Obvs it is not red anymore, I would say a dark brown and I smelt some, it-s hard to describe really, it doesn't smell off or bad but then I don't tend to sniff the meat when it is fresh.
So I thought where on the internet can I get some short notice advice? I know, I'll pop in to Yorko's Convenience Store!
I am cooking it right now alongside some mushroom. I have some rice and two sachets of garlic and chilli sauce so that's my plan for a meal. I just need to know if there is any danger eating the beef, a bit late now to take a picture of it I suppose.
I was listening to a program on radio 4 about this the other day "sell by" dates relate to stock rotation in shops, it doesn't mean the food is off after that date but it doesn't mean it isn't either.
"Best before" means exactly that ... its at its freshest before that date.
"Use by" is the one you need to worry about most. That's the one where you could be in trouble if you ignore it.
Even on meat, I don't think a day or two will hurt. And although you might not know what fresh meat smells like, meat that is off is unmistakeable.
It never smelt off thanks tinkerbelle, just it was a strange smell to me like flour - it looks and smells delicious in the oven at the moment because I just looked. Does anyone have any scissors? My next job is to open the sauce sachets and I have no idea where my scissors are. sFun_duh2
Tsk tsk Yorko you are reminding me of Mrs. Richards.
One of my biggest problems is walking around with things, putting them down and spending another fifteen minutes trying to find them.
Just like the second sauce sachet, I finally found it in my bedroom and it was there because I put it there after spending five minutes searching for some scissors.
Not really. Well, a bit obvs but still sore throat and bunged up.
Emotionally flat.
Well the rice was Tilda British Curry so doesn't really go and I think the meat does have a bit of a funny taste but am eating it anyway, after all, you only die once although I think Frank sang that You Only Live Twice?
