She made a right old fuss of me this morning when she came in, usually a sign she's hungry. So I provided fresh Chicken Whiskers in a clean bowl, and she wandered off unimpressed. She wouldn't touch the Go Cat either, just a few laps of water. I imagine the mad woman next door has been feeding her best ham again.

Boris will often herd one of us into the conservatory to replenish the dishes then go straight out as if he wants to be sure as soon as he has finished charging around outside and wants to come in there will definitely be food. I put the amount they are entitled to in a lock and lock (QVC speak Mr M) each day and dole it out as they ask but they have to wait 24 hours until more is provided if they eat it all up too soon.
He would bellow if the food bowl was empty and go out as soon as you put some down. Like you say, I think he just wanted to know there was something in it. Quite often he came back with a mouse, usually alive, which he would keep one paw on while he ate - something to play with after lol!
Harvey had never asked for food in his life until. He might saunter along after Alfie but actually now he has realised that if he doesn't ask then no bugger else is going to ask for him. Took him a week or two to work that out lol.
Our Cosmo (9) will eat until he practically passes out. He finishes his portion in seconds, then sits next to whichever one has some left and stares hard at them until they give up.After breaking his paw last year, he has a slight limp and he will sit by the food cupboard with the poorly paw raised in silent supplication, his eyes as wide as possible. If we have visitors, he will exaggerate the limp and sit mutely next to them, holding out poorly paw. He is the Marcel Marceau of cats, never 'speaks', just makes gestures. He also supplements with birds, mice, and lizards. They all prefer their wet food in jelly, not gravy, and the LIDL sachets are mostly liked. We buy the occasional pack of Felix when it is on offer and they all go mad for it. Chassis (11)has a bird-like appetite and prefers dry food. They get a 50/50 mix of whatever loose dry stuff is on offer and Hill's science. Celeste(5) also has a dainty appetite and is absolutely huge, but she rarely moves around. Little Vassili (10 months) gets too excited to eat, he gets bored easily and has palled up with a neighbourhood kitten now that Sotiris is gone, and the pair of them race around the fields and garden at breakneck speed. A previous U.K. cat, Dymphna, loved strawberries and her successor, Elsie, was always trying to drink my Fennel tea....
Our local pet shop is called Manos. It is a family concern and staffed entirely by the owner's young lads who always sport the latest hairstyles. To us, they are the Pet Shop Boys....
It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

But...but...the Pet Shop Boys hate cats.
"Don't want a cat Scratching it's claws all over my habitat, Giving no love and getting fat..."
Pffffft, That was before they met our cats, who would have charmed them, I'm sure. The elder Pet Shop Boy once remarked that if he was ever reincarnated, he wanted to come back as one of our cats...

I've decided to cut down on feeding them. They don't really need an afternoon feed, I just give in to them. They will just get a few biscuits during the day and we will see how that goes. I'm finding it very odd they suddenly don't like any of what they have been happily eating for long time. I've four boxes now of various new ones I've tried, I think I'll take them to Cats Protection.
I've just re-read my post, I did mean take the food to Cats Protection lol!
I have tried that in past Liv, no joy. I could try adding a small amount to another, but it's finding one they like to try that at the moment. If only there was bluebottle flavour, Boots is demolishing the house at the moment trying to catch one, he still munches them up!
