Saffy turned her nose up at breakfast this morning, I can't leave it down as Harry would eat it, she's come in twice and rejected it both times I'm not giving her anything else but I've just put about 10 Purina One biscuits on it and she's eaten the lot, success!
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right, the only difference is they're wrong
I've not heard of doing that before Tinks, I'll see where I can get some.
They've been following me around the garden this afternoon, have given them a handful biscuits to save them from passing out till this evening. Hopefully cutting their food down will work.
Just a mere flip of it Frazz. Some cat foods contain it I believe. I bought a pot about the size of a jam jar of the stuff. Harvey has toys that are stuffed with it and this is to refill those toys.
Thought I'd pick up this thread again as I've really had a bit of a struggle with Harvey. He'll eat what he likes really well but that's the bloody exiebsyve stuff. Talking to the guy in the pet shop has really helped and innit have a plan that works for Harvey and my wallet!!
He likes those packs of cat soups that are about £2.50 for four. I can hear Mr M inhaling a deep breath from here lol. One of those isn't enough for him and actually neither are two. But if I put half a pouch of a bulkier (cheaper) cat food underneath and a soup on top then he eats every last scrap. There are two brands of cat soup and the pet shop man lets me know when either is on special offer and I buy the buggas in bulk. Usually in packs of 24. Last time I bought 48 packs! It brings the price down considerably. Still not cheap but I only have the one car to feed now and as Alf ate twice as much as Harvey my overall cat food bill is still down.
And ... for the first time in his life Harvey is starting to really fill out. He's a big cat. He's long legged and long in the body but he's always been slight, verging on skinny. Not any more. God knows what the bugga is going to weigh when I take him to the vet next time but my money is on over 8kgs. He's not fat or even vaguely chubby. And his treat consumption levels are really minimal.
There's no etiquette, they refuse point blank to use a soup spoon!
My two love the Gourmet soups as an occasional treat, but I won't buy them unless they are on a really good offer.
Try the Whiskas soups Tinks, which are about £3.50 for 12. They come in a creamy sauce, so not really soup, and I have to mash the lumps (as per normal) into the sauce otherwise they leave them. They are useful for those occasions when they have an extra hungry day, which normally starts in September, but they are taking advantage of the current weather I've noticed!
He does like those Frazz but he always leaves some. Whilst this method of feeding him is in theory more expensive it means I throw next to nothing away and he doesn't pester to fill up on treats. It also cuts down on the amount of dried food he eats.
And he still has white fish or prawns occasionally.
The bloody cat eats better than I do some days lol.
Interesting to read about your cats and their eating habits. Quite funny too. :hehe:
I had two cats Shadow and Pudding. Shadow disappeared last Boxing day when we moved house. She would eat 2/3 pouches a day. Never fussy about it except it had to be felix and as good as it gets was her favourite brand.
Pudding on the other hand, well they do say siblings aren't always the same. Pudding is such a fussy eater. She will pick at the felix as good as it gets...run away from any whiskars in any form. She and Shadow hated the smell of it.
So I tried Pudding with the vegetable as good as it gets Felix and she eats a bit more of them than any of the other ones. Not sure why. At least she will get her five a day.
Pudding likes to have slices of chicken. I pick up a £1 pack from Iceland or the dearer one from Tesco but it has more chicken in. My brothers cat is the same kind of eater.
Strange why some cats eat anything and others are so fussy.
I do buy the value tins of tuna from Tesco and give Pudding a tin of them once or twice a week. She wolfs it all down.
My stepmothers cat is the same but she tried the soups that has been mentioned and they worked for a bit. I might look into these.
I do have a bowl of biscuits on hand 24/7 and she will eat them. They are the Go Cat ones but noticed that on my last shop the big bag has gone up to £5:50 and I am not paying it. I have picked up a small bag of the Tesco ones. I do hope Pudding likes them.
They certainly can be completely different characters. I had two originally, brothers. Harvey is a picky eater. Alfie was absolutely not. He was a bit like a feline dustbin. Every once in a while he'd try the spots on the carpet just to make sure they weren't edible. Didn't really ever find anything Alfie wouldn't eat but we did try and keep him to cat food, vegetables, meat and fish.
