Thank you all. She has to return next Monday to have the stitches removed and I will take your advice and reiterate my concerns. She is running about already Mim, whether she should or not! I had to go to the dentist this morning and the little monkey has tried to scratch her stitches. The wound is in such a place that the buster collar is completely ineffective. 33 bought her some toddler T shirts to try and deter the scratching, but she's still managed to knock off a small part of the scab. Fortunately the stitches are still intact.
This was the first time she's been left since the op and I was only out for a maximum 40 minutes. I'm definitely housebound till next Monday.
Stitches from the lypoma wound were taken out this morning by the vet we saw on the last visit. The wound has healed well and Liz is very spritely. Unfortunately, when Gareth the vet checked the stitch on her eyelid, he seemed to think that the vet who operated had not used dissolvable sutures. I've got to take her back in another week when he has checked with original vet, and she may have to have another anaesthetic to remove the stitches as they are so close to the eye. Once again I am not a happy bunny!
If there was any doubt remaining after the first debacle, this has definitely sealed the deal and I'm off to pastures new for any future treatments. I feel a letter to the RCVS coming on if there are any further problems.
I do think a letter of complaint is due but do send this to the practice first rather than going straight to the RCVS. From experience I know if you don't, they will ask you do that.
The RCVS can't get your vet to offer a refund or any compensation either. If you take the practice to task yourself you're likely to get an apology and a monetary offer.
You might get further with the threat of a complaint to the RCVS rather than actually complaining. If there's any whiff of negligence they'll advise you to take civil action.
Very distressing for you Cariad though Elizabeth seems to have got over it. Nothing like a good ole scratch to make the mistress of the house regret going out. I have a picture in my mind of Elizabeth running around in her toddler T shirt. I bet she looks a star.
I will write to the Practice first Tinks, thank you for the advice. Mim, she hates wearing clothes of any sort (33 insists on buying her something to wear every Christmas much to her disgust) so the T shirt didn't go down well. She's back to her naked self now and thoroughly enjoying rolling around the carpets. She's such a forgiving little soul and is still eager to get back into the vets, straining on her lead to get through the door.
How is she Cariad? What's the score on this other stitch/stitches? All far more traumatic than it needed to be by the sounds of it. Bless her gentle heart for being happy to go to the vet. My boys hate it with a passion.
