Supermarkets face an investigation into claims shoppers are ‘losing hundreds of millions of pounds’ after being duped by bogus bargains, misleading labels and sneak price rises.

Which? has used its legal powers to launch a so-called super-complaint into the pricing tactics of big stores such as Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons.

The move will trigger an investigation by the Competition & Markets Authority, which could lead to new laws into the way prices and offers are presented.

And the way they hold suppliers to ransom over prices, and withhold their money for weeks on end. Some suppliers have had problems staying in business. Disgraceful tactics, nothing but greed and too much power.

Quite frankly I don't take much notice of such offers I am well aware they are not worth the paper they are written on.

I just try and work out the price and see if it is a good deal (not always easy).

I have good idea of the price of most stuff I buy so I know where to go (and where not to go) for a certain product.

Sometimes for convenience you have to take what is on offer.

I get loads of mail shots for cheap internet mobile phone and TV packages deals etc, they all go straight in the the bin
unopened.

Whatever they do the supermarkets will find a way round it, least no becasue they have a lot of politicians in their pockets.

The politicians will make a few of the right noises and then do nothing that is effective.

They seem to have a small section where there are smaller sizes of stuff - a big con.

Customers have turned to Aldi & Lidl in their droves apparently I'm one of them. I find the shopping run much easier because -

* products are cheaper
* the shops are compact which means I can whizz round in no time
* they don't chop & change the layout so I know exactly where the filter coffee lives
* certain food lines are far more palatable
* the tills are manned - there is no "Problem in the bagging area"
* they have those nice interesting wire crates in the centre holding all sorts of random things I need when I see them

I now buy cat food and cat litter at 'Pests at Home' (virtually next door to our Lidl) thus cutting my visits to Tesco for things I can't buy in Lidl down even more

They are few are far between around here, there is a Lidl close by which has been closed for a refit. I'm going to have a look around next week, it was a chore before.

I had a small delivery from Tesco today, £28 pounds worth for £1 delivery. I must admit their drivers are a lovely bunch, always very helpful. They come to the side door which is the kitchen, and never mind putting the boxes up on the work surfaces. It's a cheap way of shopping for me as I'm not tempted by offers, buying clothes etc. I only need to order once a fortnight, I can get a few odd bits in town in between.
