I know a few of us are interested in gardening, so I just wanted to share, that after many attempts in the past, I've finally managed to get a peony to grow and flower It may not seem like much, but I've tried in a few gardens and had no luck at all.
Many years ago, I had a beautiful pink one in the garden of a house we moved in to, but since then, I've planted a few, and they've come to nowt.
When we moved in to this house 4 years ago, there wasn't much in the garden, and what there was, was tat, and we removed it all, and started from scratch. I bought a peony and planted it, it started to grow, then died off, and since then nothing. This year, I noticed the leaves poking through, and then a couple of buds.
We were away last week, and got home to find that it had bloomed, a beautiful white flower with a yellow centre. I can't tell you how pleased I am cassboing
There was one in my garden when I moved here and in 12 years it's never flowered. I'm sure they're sensitive to where they're planted, how deep etc and I'm pretty sure they don't like being moved so if it's not happy where it is I have to resign myself to it never flowering!
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right, the only difference is they're wrong
I did the one thing you're not supposed to do with peonies ... when I moved house I brought my deep red peonies with me. They were wobbly for a couple of years but have been fab for the past 20 odd years.
Its great when you finally succeed with a plant or flower you love but have struggled with. So satisfying.
