Last time (at home) we beat them 3-0 and I would like the same tonight away. No pressure, we're going up but a win would (apparently) seal the Championship title, ie. we'd get a cup. For that reason, Enzo has left Keiran Dewsbury-Grim Up North-Hall on the bench.
Leicester are Championship champions, something I for one thought we'd blown a few weeks ago. A Vardy masterclass, scoring two with Kasey McAteer getting the third. Enzo was a bit of a shyster and denied Vardy his hat trick in the match that sealed the Cup by taking him off 20 minutes from time. The concern now is that they could have been Vardy's last goals for us - he's not signed a new contract for next season as yet. We really shouldn't rely on a 37 year old striker, but he gets us through every time.
Any celebrations may be short lived lily if they get handed a 10 point deduction next season for spending too much and making excessive losses. We could easily be straight back down this time next year, but I'm not one to be negative as you know.
A stunning win for the Gyros Gobblers, Villa were quite rightly put in their place and now face an uphill struggle away in the 2nd leg. The Greeks went 0-2 ahaed in the first half before Twotkins pulled one back. Villa had also appealed for a penalty but the ref was not having it despite it being a clear penalty. Never mind. In the second half it became 2-3 as both teams had their moments, but Olympiakos sealed in with 20 minutes to spare. There was concern late on as Douggie Luiz was wrongly awarded a penalty just because the ball hit the arm of a Greek, but naturally he fluffed it as it ricoched off the post, so justice was done. Bodes well for a final with Villa not being in it.
Douggie Luiz hides his sorry face after stuffing up his spot kick, while a Greek runs past chortling.
The ghost of The Technician returns as a Villa fan sneaks in a Chicken Naga from the Brummie Balti in Digbeth.
Turf Moor used to be a torrid hellhole to visit, but not any more, just wet and miserable. The Geordies wiped the pitch with Burnley who are almost relegated. Newcastle meanwhile are up to 6th and a step closer to Europe next season. It was like target practice, four different players providing the Toon goals. I can't be arsed checking who.
Leicester 0-2 Blackburn
A bit of a non event, seems thoughts were on collecting the Cup at the end of the match, but a decent showing would have been nice. Vardy has pledged to carry on next season, says he's still fit and ready for more. I gather he's looking at a pay cut though, what with these dodgy finance point deductions. Maybe there was a dodgy deal between the two clubs, Blackburn's win ensured their Championship status next term. We had seven shots on target and scored nowt while Blackburn had two and scored both. Hmm...
