You only get your bus pass when you become eligible for your state pension
I am eligible to apply for a bus pass but I doubt I'd ever use one. The last time I went on a bus was when my son was 2 and I took him on a trip to a friend's as he wanted to go on a bus. He's 35 next month!
You should get it next November then and it happens automatically. I did ring them when I was 60 and, as far as I can remember, didn't have to fill anything in, but my state pension kicked in in March 2014 and the heating allowance arrived in my account in November.
You could always ring them to check as they were very helpful when I rang them.
I've only had a renewal on my pre-pay prescription card once but they managed it without any drama!!
I don't get my pension till I'm 67 I don't think. I'm sure we both had a letter a while ago (there's only 6 months between us). Haven't got a problem with that except I don't think the benefits have caught up so they all stop when I'm 65! That's a while away so maybe plenty of time for them to sort that out.
I think I can get a bus/train pass now because of my PIP but I couldn't use a bus even if I wanted to! I might just about manage a train if himself was with me, but I would rather not! Chauffeur driven limo would be my preference!

At the moment the walk to the office to pick up the form from where I can park would be difficult. Why you can't download it online I can't work out. Also as usual the proof they want I don't have as Mr FP gets the utility bills. Hopefully there will be a longer list.

It's getting to be a real problem, this proof of address and so on. Everywhere is trying to persuade you to go paperless so we no longer get bank statements or most utility bills. We recently had a situation where we both had to provide two proofs but they had to be different so the council tax, though in joint names, only counted as one of the 4 required.
I ended up getting a bank statement printed by the branch. It wasn't a proper one (10 days!) but they said it was the normally accepted thing. It had the statement stuff on one side and all the address and account details on the other. I duly sent it off and got a phone call saying it was not acceptable as there was no address or account number! Nobody had bothered to turn it over, they just binned it as useless so they couldn't go back to it. I was in a panic as we were on a deadline but they said no problem and asked me some 'security' questions over the phone! Why couldn't they just have done that in the first place???

The stupidest one was recently when a company wanted proof of identity from both my sister and I signed in the presence of the same witness on the same day when she lives in Hamburg!
Daddy Tink gets the heating allowance but doesn't feel he needs it so he donates the money to Age Concern.
I have to say it makes me smile. I love my darling dad. And he's right, he doesn't "need" the money but there is something amusing about a 75 year donating the money to Age Concern.
I love my bus pass, mostly when I have hospital appointments, which is only a 5 minute bus ride away. Hospital parking is extortionate if you're attending regularly. It's handy for town as well on occasions, off I go with my lime green shopping trolley! LOL
There's little point in applying for your bus pass unless you intend to use it especially as it actually costs councils quite a lot which in these days of budget cutbacks could be better spent elsewhere.
