Thanks for your tips Tinks. They will be three in June. Katya is not nervous , she has her own ways of avoiding him when he is being a plonker but there are times when she can't. I make sure when he is not going out because of the weather that he is played with , he particularly likes his elephant and he monopolises Mr FP's knees of an evening. Katya goes out much more than him. She likes to come and sit near me, but not on me, loves sitting on leather bags or just in the craftroom doorway if I am being creative. If he goes out first thing in the morning when it is one of Mr FP's work days she will quietly stay in and come and sit with me upstairs. She will have the house to herself until I let him back in then she goes out. If I go out I leave him in the conservatory where he usually likes to be during the day and Katya gets the landing and bathroom- they both like a 'hotspot' in there. She is adept at minimising the confrontation but it can't be manged 24/7. Should add that Boris is a lovely cat when he is not being aggressive- full of charm and affectionate and gorgeous to look at.

They both have had AWOL time- he got stuck in next door's garage when he couldn't get back out of the cat flap whilst nicking Thelma and Louise's food. Katya sometimes does not come back until teatime in the summer if she has stayed out at night, the first time she did this I was very spooked .Usually though if she has not come in she waits for me to do my exercises in the garage then comes to say 'Hello' , then either comes in with me or sleeps in the garden or garage until she is ready to come in and eat.
I do think giving Boris something to take his mind off beating up Katya and wearing him out a bit could be a good idea. But Katya sounds like she has the measure of him most of the time.
My two fight much more in the winter because they haven't been able to burn off energy outside ... well that's what I think. They are pretty evenly matched though. Alf is more likely to start the fights but Harvey can finish the fights any time he likes really. Either by escaping (he is faster and more agile) or by walloping Alf one (he is by far the better fighter lol). Alf is a dirty little scrapper whereas Harvey is more like a martial arts specialist. It doesn't worry more any more but it used to. They're 7 now and they've never permanently fallen out or done any damage to themselves. Clumps of fur and a wounded ego is about as bad as it gets.
Hope they settle down a bit. And I wonder now I've written this if Boris is the same as my boys ... excess winter energy.
If they were children I would very much suspect that K was deliberately winding up B when no-one was looking so that he got into trouble, got shut in the conservatory leaving her with the house to herself!! Mind you, I would suspect the same if it were my cats too!
We have had as many as 6 adults and 3 newborns for a short time, and had 6 adults for quite a few years. I don't remember much in the way of fighting at all. The only thing I remember was having a mother and daughter, and, aged about 10, the daughter suddenly started peeing in the corner of the kitchen several times a day. The vet could find nothing wrong and we tried everything - sticky surfaces, tin foil on the floor, feliway, washing with biological washing liquid and nothing stopped it. We had almost got to the point of having her pts as we just couldn't cope when the mother died (aged 14) and the problem stopped overnight. There had never been any obvious animosity but clearly there was some issue! Daughter went on till she was 18, never peeing in the house again!

Woken up to another attack and lots of noise so have decided to try some of this Feliway to see if it will help. It is Katya who ends up losing the fur so she is enjoying some time out from him at the moment. I can see it on Amazon but if the vets has got it in I might venture out and get some from there- snow here.
Harvey is naturally a very nervous cat but underneath it all he is a sweet, loving boy who loves a cuddle. The first time I used Feliway was the very first time he got on my lap ever. It was only for a few seconds but it was a real turning point.
It calms cats down. I don't know how but it does. And when my two were really going for it in the fighting stakes it did calm it down a notch.
I used to use it all the time but now I use it when there's something that will stress Harve out. Sadly he finds Christmas stressful ... he doesn't like all the decorations being put up, people visiting etc.

There is a Saddlery in the village that is a stockist too. Just depends on the roads here. We can see the M66 at the back across the valley and it is at a standstill due to the weather.Mr FP says there is no rush as it won't work anyway ( salt, pinch of). I will ring to see who has got it in stock if I can get out of the road.
