Yes, it is a badger. He didn't eat the food, just being nosy lol!
Mrs Tiggywinkle came under the fence tonight and was shuffling round the garden. It's amazing what goes on out there once it gets dark lol! It was lovely seeing a badger, reminded me of Mr Digby who I raised from a few hours old.
I didn't know you raised a badger, Frazz, you are full of surprises. Was he able to live a normal badgery life afterwards in the wild or was he too 'human'?
It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.
I have posted about him couple of times over the years, frightening to think it all occurred nearly 50 years ago!
A family of badgers had to be moved by The Wildlife Trust as they were on a new construction site for houses, unfortunately one badger had just given birth. There were three new-borns, one came to me and miraculously 2 of them survived. He was about 10cm long and weighed just over 100g.
He was just beautiful and very loveable. Lots of stories I could tell along the way, but at 4 months old he went to Juniper Hall in Surrey, a field study centre. It was perfect for him as they had other badgers, and foxes in permanent residence. The picture of the man holding Mr Digby, who was about 5 years old at the time, absolutely adored him and would take him on school educational visits etc. He had a long, safe, and very happy life, I think he was about 12 years old at the end.
He was about 5-6 weeks old in the first pictures. He is one of my most cherished memories.
First pictures of the hoglets last night, they look to be about 5-6 weeks old. They are a bit tottery in the video and sweet to watch. Hopefully they will stay around for a while to get food, obviously not the best time of year for them to have been born. Just adorable.
