About a week ago, a hedgehog was noticed going up and down along the fence between me and my neighbour, taking mouthfuls of grass through a gap under their decking. It went on for a couple of days and then she stayed under there, only coming out to eat food put down for her.
We are pretty sure she is nesting and may have already given birth. They have bought a wildlife camera and set it up near the food, they sent me the first video this evening, really hoping now to capture any little ones when they are ready to leave.
I have seen hoglets before. Once when they were only days old, and another time 3 about the size of a tennis ball with the parents. Mum and Dad were grunting away on a warm summer evening shuffling the babies along down the garden path. They are seriously cute.
